Do you feel it? It’s cold. It’s overwhelming. It’s ugly. It’s hateful. It spews lies and hides truth. It calls it “my truth” instead of what is eternally true. It pits people against each other based on things that are lies. It says we are divided and broken beyond repair.

There are times in the world’s history of brokenness beyond repair. Extreme measures were deemed, but only the LORD deems those, not man. Not any man. Only GOD will bring extreme measures. For now, and I pray forever, we are a nation – Under God. GOD! The one true God. You can believe what you want, but the Bible is very clear. There is only ONE, TRUE God. He will not be mocked by anyone. Anyone! What God hates, we should hate. What God loves, we should love.

Yet  it’s here. THE DARKNESS is here. It’s all around us. Do you feel it? I do. Abundantly. And it’s overwhelming. Yet, my heart has hope.

You may remember, DARKNESS has been around almost forever. Forever. Yet, there is one. ONE who overcomes THE DARKNESS. There is one who is the light shining amongst it.  There is the ONE who is called THE LIGHT and he brings it to overcome and split the darkness.

You may remember that day thousands of years ago. He prayed over and over to his father. His burden was so great, so heavy that he sweated drops of blood. BLOOD. He knew the story. He had written the story. THE DARKNESS would overtake him. THE LIGHT would go out. OUT. THE LIGHT of the world would go out. He knew it. He asked for a way out, but ultimately, he knew the truth. THE LIGHT must go out.

And so on that day, that Friday many thousands of years ago, THE DARKNESS reigned. THE DARKNESS had fooled them all into believing that THE LIGHT was a threat and must die. Reminds me of today. In many ways, DARKNESS reigns.

And on that day, thousands of years ago, physical darkness overcame the land for three hours. The day had become night. Physical darkness had come just as DARKNESS overshadowed THE LIGHT.

But THE LIGHT. THE LIGHT. He knew the story. He knew the ending. He knew the power.

THE DARKNESS could not hold him! Every chain was broken! The Gates of Hell held no authority over him. THE LIGHT came to life and shattered THE DARKNESS forever! Forever! Just because it may not be “your truth” doesn’t mean that it is NOT true. Read the Bible, friend. Read it! It tells the truth! Jesus is THE WAY – the TRUTH – and THE LIFE. He is THE LIGHT of the world that no one can extinguish. EVER. He is alive today and he reigns! With that alone, we have hope!

THE DARKNESS we have in America right now is real. You can feel it. And it’s downright terrifying. But, I know and I pray that, as a nation Under God, the sleeping giants will awake and remember who they belong to. They will remember who inspired our founding fathers to oppose tyranny and one rule to birth a nation full of opportunity for people. Opportunity for ALL people. A chance AND a country to make something for themselves and those they love. A nation under God.

No, it’s not a perfect nation, far from it, but IT IS the nation that God breathed life into for his people. IT IS the nation that people all over the world want to come to so that they can have opportunity for themselves. And it brings people from all over the world to hear the one, true gospel. THE ONE, TRUE GOSPEL! Praise Jesus!

The Bible tells us that God is looking to bring all back to him, and when they come here, to America, they can hear it. THE TRUTH! We CANNOT let THE DARKNESS overcome. We must share this good news of Jesus in a FREE nation of opportunity for ALL.

FEAR NOT, my friends, THE LIGHT is overcoming the world! THE LIGHT is overcoming THE DARKNESS! THE LIGHT will bless this nation as the sleeping giants awake and say unabashedly:

Join me in praying for our nation. Join me in voting FOR AMERICA, not tyranny. Join me in loving what God loves. Now, Let’s Roll!

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes…” – Romans 1:16

The House That Built Me

It is 73 years old. It was built brick by brick and board by board by my grandfather, Jake Ross. It was in our family for all of those 73 years. And then, as if it were just a mere moment, that chapter closed for our family on May 10, 2019.

I must admit. That chapter was so hard to close. So hard. There were tears and there still are, even as I write this.

That house was our family. Our heart. It was the house that built me. Built our family. The number of memories in that house would stretch from here to the moon and back. So much love there. So much trial there. So much of God watching and working. Love hammered into the walls and floorboards.

Love is Spelled D – O – G

He lived to be 112 years old. Well, in human years. 16 in dog. He was the last remaining part of our girls’ childhood. That sad reality hit us months ago. And it hit us like a ton of bricks. There were tears. Many. There are tears again and there will continue to be, I’m sure. The last part of that chapter in our life went home to Jesus on January 5, 2019.

Jack came to us on December 27, 2002. He was a late Christmas present for Brooke and Abbey. Santa couldn’t really bring a puppy on his sleigh, or so the note to the girls read.  So, they were given notice from Santa that mom and dad had agreed to let them go and pick out a new puppy.

Dear 2018 …

Well, here you are.  A new year.  If I say that I am so glad that 2017 is over, that would be very true, but 2017 also brought some great memories.

A trip to Europe where memories that will last a lifetime were created.  What a blessing to see the beautiful world and spend three weeks with my sweet, grown up girl.

Then a trip to St. Thomas where toes in the sand and long breakfasts by the sea with my sweet, second girlie will forever be remembered.

To a high school graduation and now the babies are all grown.  Wow – where did that time go? Read More

3 Tips to Quick and Easy Healthy Eating

If you are anything like me, time is always a hot commodity.  Days are just busy, busy, busy.  You need to work.  You need to clean.  You need to do laundry.  You need to find some time to work out.  You need some time with Jesus.  And you need to cook.  For me, that last one was always hard.  I just didn’t like to cook.  Mind you, I did cook.  I even cooked well for my family, but I just didn’t like it.  Years ago, I was even a stay at home mom and did not like to cook.

Puppy Love and Pampered Pooches

So, I’ve been trying to get back to posting on my blog.  Summer has been fun and I am so behind.  Well, here’s one reason.  See picture above.

Back in the old days, it was hard to get things done at home because I had a baby on my lap.  Can anyone relate?  Well, now the babies are grown and this furry baby has decided she needs a lap too.

She cries and cries until you pick her up.  Crazy Holly!  Love her, but how can I write with this crazy critter on my lap?  Answer:  Not very well.  🙂

Well, anyway, I’m working on things and moving this critter along.

Anyone else have crazy, furry babies who need that extra lovin’ too?

I’d love to see and hear about them.  🙂

And, yes, Holly is getting a new life and I have a new blog post coming next week.

Woo hoo!  Back on track!

Living a Passion Filled Life

If you have ever met me, you would know that I am a very passionate person.  But, I am really only passionate about the things I want to be passionate about.  Can I hear an Amen?  Yep – that’s how I roll.  I love to dig in and be passionate about the things I love.  My God!  My Family!  Healthy Living and much more.

But, what if the enemy knows about the things I love?  What if he decides that the things I love is where he will work against me?  What if he takes the things I am passionate about and begins to taint them, change them, or even make them difficult to be passionate about anymore?

Well, get ready,  friends, He will.  He will.

There are many things in life that we are passionate about.  Or, well, maybe at least we should be.  I have already shared with you that I am passionate about faith, family and healthy living.  Large doses of all three are what shape a healthy life to me.

Our culture easily speaks to being passionate about many things.  Maybe it’s sports.  Maybe it’s food.  Maybe it’s decorating your house like the popular blogger.  Maybe it’s reading, writing; you name it and fill in the blank.

When we are passionate about something, it is so easy to pursue it.  Isn’t it?  It’s fun.  It brings joy to us.  It feels good to chase after it and spend time on it.  It makes us smile and the work to be done feels easy, maybe even effortless.  Oh – beautiful day!  Don’t you wish you could just stay in that euphoric state forever?

Here’s the thing.   We are human.   We are fickle and often suffer from what I call – “Short Timer” Disease.  We love to be all in – all out for a Short Time!  Oh, wait.  Dig in and focus on the long term?  Eeekkk – that feels a bit uncomfortable.   It’s much easier to do things for just a short bit.  Can anyone relate?

Sometimes it gets hard to be passionate about something, especially about the things that we have known for a while.  Loved for a while.  Been blessed with or by for a while.  Maybe the shiny newness is gone and you are left with the ordinary or the, dare I say, mundane parts to do day in and day out.

And that’s where the battle begins, my friend.  The enemy knows this about us.  He knows we waver and feel “passion less” often.  So, where does be dig in?  He digs in right at those places and makes you question your love for God, your love for yourself, your love for others, and so on and so on.

So, what do we do?  We fight back!

Fervent – Chapter 1 – Your Passion

“If I were your enemy, I’d seek to dim your passion, dull your interest in spiritual things, dampen your belief in God’s ability and his personal concern for you, and convince you that the hope you’ve lost is never coming back – was probably just a lie to begin with.” (p. 25 – Fervent, Shirer)

Well, that about sums it up for me.  Every single point she makes right in the opening passage of Chapter 1 is so on point.  Isn’t it so awesome and so easy to believe that God is watching out for you, working for your good when everything is going great?

But, what about when life changes and things change?  All of a sudden we find ourselves wondering, “Does God even care about me?”  “Is he really working for my good?”

That, my friends, is the enemy.  The enemy.  He whispers lies to us to make us dampen or completely extinguish our passion for God Or for God’s people.  Or for our pursuit of Jesus.  Or for our pursuit of the good things that God has already planned for us.

The enemy knows full well that if he can dim our passion for chasing after God, for following God’s plan for us, that he significantly raises his chances of taking us out altogether.  And he is a master at the game.

Ever wonder why one week you are so excited about going to church?  So excited about Bible Study?  You can’t wait to get there and see friends, worship, learn.  And then, the very next week, you wake up thinking church or Bible Study  is just a waste of time.  You just don’t feel like going.

Don’t misinterpret what I am saying here.  Going to church or going to a Bible Study is not required by God.  Going to church or studying God’s word does not put us in the Christian Hall of Fame.

But, what I am saying is, why do we waver from week to week?  We know we completely enjoy going to church.  We know we completely love God’s word.  We know we completely learn something new that we can take away and really use in our life.  Yet, here we are thinking that …aaahhhh…church/Bible study is not what I need.  I need sleep or I just need a lazy morning or I just need an evening with nothing else.

DING!  DING!  DING! Wait!!!!  Wait!!!  Do we recognize who is doing that to us?  We often think it is just us.  We blame ourselves for not being “Godly” enough or “God centered” enough to be on fire for God all the time or certainly, at least, on Sunday or for the Bible.

STOP!  Hit pause and listen to me here.  We must recognize who is doing that to us and believe me; it’s completely, strategically on purpose.  The enemy warps our perspective so much so that we don’t even know who is doing what or why, especially when it comes to chasing a life filled with God and his grace.

So, friend, if your passion has faded for a bit or even for a long time,

RUN!  Run back to God.  Don’t try to rekindle your passion on your own.  Trust it to his care and he will fan the flame for you.  He will once again light the fire within you so that you are chasing after all that is good and right, not what the enemy has lied to you about.

Listen, sweet, sweet friend.   It will take strategic, specific, purpose filled, fervent prayer.  So, let’s stop beating ourselves up about it and get down to it.

Let’s fellowship with the greatest Father through Fervent prayer and let his grace fall upon us.  Fresh, new, undeserving, but oh so refreshing and kind.

And, knowing our God like I do, he will raise those passions again to a better, even greater level than ever before.

Our God is amazing!  He is so loving, so caring, and just so capable like that.

Grab a copy of Fervent and come along on our journey.  We’d love to have you!

Don’t miss Chapter 2 – Your Focus!

I guarantee – it will be amazing!
